Design 3 - What next for Weyer?

The construction of the bypass, a controversial tunnel project, has fundamentally changed the center of Weyer. The historic market square is now free of through traffic and has become a municipal road. For the community, this is not just a change in traffic patterns, but a starting point for considering how open space and local structure can be conceived and designed in the future.

This is because the reduction in traffic has created a new space of possibilities that interacts closely with the entire community. The central challenge is to build on the existing landscape and architectural qualities and develop sustainable strategies that strengthen Weyer as a vibrant place.
At the same time, the community—like many rural areas—faces profound challenges: migration, vacancy rates, heat development, and flood risks, as well as the preservation of existing infrastructure. Ecological and social dynamics must be translated into new forms.

Starting with the changed market square and extending to the larger context, we are developing designs for the future of Weyer based on the fundamental concepts of urban planning. The aim is to consider both open space and architecture, to respond to the existing situation, and to create new qualities both indoors and outdoors.
