This workshop focuses on the transformation of church-owned properties in Styrian municipalities. As one of the largest property owners in the region, the Diocese plays a central role in this process. In collaboration with the Diocese, Department 17 of the Regional Government of Styria, and selected municipalities, we will analyse successful examples of adaptive reuse of existing buildings.
The aim is to understand how such projects can drive positive change within communities. Transforming parish houses and other religious properties opens up exciting opportunities for new uses and contributes significantly to local development. The focus is on the meaningful and sustainable reuse of existing buildings—preserving historic fabric while making it fit for the future.
Students will explore how different stakeholders can collaborate to repurpose existing real estate without compromising its cultural significance. We will also examine the impact of these projects on local communities and the environment.
This workshop offers a valuable opportunity to reflect on the complex challenges involved in these transformations and to develop innovative solutions for the future. The outcomes will be presented in a final presentation and can serve as a foundation for further projects.
