Construction and Design

This course focuses on the interface between design and construction. It evaluates both the constructive implementation of design aspects and the potential aesthetic value of materials and construction techniques.
Selected excerpts from students own design concepts provide the base. We will discuss and analyse these details to identify their potential for further development. The excerpts detail can be part of a facade - but also an interior design sequence or even an exterior space may be elaborated. Which challenges must be identified and addressed? Are adaptations to the design required, and do compromises need to be negotiated?
We will sharpen our professional understanding of joining techniques, materials and their properties, colours, as well as relevant regulations and standards, examine how the desired solution can be achieved.
