Circular construction requires a new culture of design and planning. The city becomes a raw material stock for new architectural structures, challenging conventional planning processes.
The first focus of the course is on transferring materials from demolished buildings that are still usable into new construction techniques; the second is on planning the harvesting of materials and engaging in hands-on urban mining. Based on one material—concrete composite blocks—feasible architectural solutions are developed theoretically, conceptually, and in terms of planning. At the end, 1:1 prototypes are built on the site of Hornig Areal in Graz.
