Transition Towards a Net Zero Carbon Built Environment

The SBE19 Graz conference is part of a major international series of conferences that focuses on sustainable buildings and construction. The series was launched by the International Council for Research and Innovation in Building and Construction (CIB) and the International Initiative for a Sustainable Built Environment (iiSBE) more than ten years ago, and these partners were subsequently joined by the Sustainable Building and Climate Initiative (SBCI) of UN Environment, the International Federation of Consulting Engineers (FIDIC) and the Global Alliance for Buildings and Construction (GABC).

The series, now on a three-year cycle, has become recognized as the world’s preeminent conference series in this important field. The series consists of a first year of planning, followed by a series of regional conferences in the second year, and culminating in a global event during the third year. In 2019, SBE19 Graz will be one of the regional conferences, while the global conference World Sustainable Built Environment Conference (WSBE2020) will be held in Gothenburg, Sweden in 2020.

The thematic umbrella of the WSBE2020 will be the United Nations SUSTAINABLE DEVELOPMENT GOALS (UN SDGs). SBE19 Graz will be organized in thematic line with this conference. In addition, a focus should be put on approaches for implementation of sustainable developments. Graz University of Technology is going to host this conference in co-operation with University of Natural Resources and Life Sciences, Vienna and for the first time internationally with Karlsruhe Institute of Technology and ETH Zürich.

Conference Topics

SBE19 Graz does not only promote a sustainable built environment, but also strives for sustainability during the conference itself.
We take care to organize the conference with as low environmental impacts as possible. For some aspects, we need your help!

The conference venue is easily accessible by public transport. You can take the tram directly from the train station or the city center to the venue. Side events like the welcome evening and the conference dinner are located directly in the city center with excellent public transport connections. We encourage you to use the public transport Graz has to offer.
Also, consider travelling to Graz by train instead of plane to save CO2-emissions.

We have reserved rooms in several hotels in Graz, which are all connected to public transportation. You can also find accommodation close enough to the conference venue to walk. We also offer rooms in student guesthouses, one of which (the OeAD-Guesthouse Moserhofgasse) is built as a passive house.

The food we offer at the conference is not only delicious, but also sourced mainly regionally - and it's fully vegetarian!

We try to reduce the amounts of paper. The full conference proceedings will not be printed, but will be available electronically. We charge a small fee for the book of abstracts to make sure we do not print more than we need.
