Digitalisation at TU Graz

Today, universities are faced with the dual challenge of meeting both the demands of wider society and the desires of individuals with regard to personal development. Rapidly evolving digital technologies require continuous further training and higher qualifications amidst the new challenges posed by the increasing diversity of living environments and the needs of students, researchers and teachers. In this context, digital technologies offer innovative approaches and solutions.

TU Graz has set itself the goal of utilising digitalisation meaningfully and sustainably to improve the quality of education, promote excellence in teaching and research, and optimise administrative processes. Projects such as digital learning platforms and virtual laboratories as well as application and appointment management tools are examples in this regard.

By integrating digitalisation and digital processes, it is possible to adapt to the constantly changing university landscape, to act in a needs-oriented manner and to further promote Styria as a centre of knowledge by developing innovative service models. In this endeavour, framework conditions are continuously adjusted to ensure meaningful digitalisation and to make best use of the advantages that these developments bring.

Digitalisation Policy

In spring 2018, TU Graz became the first university in Austria to adopt a digitalisation policy. This policy was developed following extensive talks and after consultation with a wide variety of stakeholders, internal and external experts and all employees. It outlines a strategic framework for action that emphasises the importance of digitalisation in the areas of teaching, research, administration and transfer of knowledge to society and the economy (Third Mission). TU Graz sees a digital transformation as an opportunity to expand on the possibilities for action and performance in these areas, focusing primarily on the sustainability of process decisions and taking people’s needs into account.

IT Strategy

In addition, TU Graz is currently working on a groundbreaking IT strategy intended to meet the dynamic requirements and priorities of digitalisation. This strategy is intended to strengthen cyber security measures, expand digital competence and promote partnerships with industry and business to drive innovation.

It will serve as the foundation for targeted measures to further develop and supplement our existing IT systems and services. These measures are aimed at achieving the strategic goals of TU Graz and, at the same time, creating an agile and future-oriented IT landscape. They function as a link between TU Graz’s strategic goals and IT projects.
