"The focus of my research is the expression and characterisation of BBE-like enzymes from different plant organisms. As a university assistant I am also given the opportunity to teach students in lab courses and to guide them through their bachelor or master thesis projects."

Stefanie Baldauf

"I am currently working on the biochemical and structural characterization of flavoenzymes, mainly using X-ray crystallography. My work is thereby focused on structure-based drug design and uncovering the reason behind the coenzyme specificity of some flavoenzymes.“

Aleksandar Bijelic / University Assistant

"As the plant guy of the team, I work on a highly interesting group of berberine bridge-like enzymes in Arabidopsis thaliana, a group of flavoproteins possibly involved in the modification of monolignols in cell walls. I am using genetic, molecular and physiological methods in order to unravel the in planta function of the selected enzymes."

Reinmar Eggers / University Project Assistant

"As lab technician in the protein biochemistry group I am involved in various research projects, where I help with protein expression, purification and the conduction of biochemical experiments."

Eva Maria Frießer / Laboratory Technician

"My project addresses the search for a suitable inhibitor for the seventh enzyme of the Shikimate pathway, chorismate synthase. To achieve that goal a variety of 18 chorismate synthases from several organisms were selected and produced. My main goal is the protein production and their characterization as well as studying the interaction of the proteins and the inhibitory compound."

Katharina Fuchs / University Assistant

"My main project deals with the production of EasE, a BBE-homologue from Aspergillus japonicus, which has not been heterologously produced an purified until to date.  Therefore, I work with various expression systems (E. coli., P. pastoris, Insect cells, cell-free systems etc.) Further, I address the mystery of the co-enzyme preference (NADH vs. NADPH) of Old Yellow enzymes using OPR3 from Solanum lycopersicon as a model enzyme and other homologues."

Bianca Kerschbaumer / University Project Assistant

"I am a Scholarship holder of a DOC fellowship from Austrian Academy of Science for the project that involves the determination of the role of dipeptidyl peptidase 3 (DPP3) in mammalian physiology. My current research is focused on determining the role of DPP3 in breast cancer."

Grazia Malovan / University Project Assistang

"As lab technician in the protein biochemistry group I am involved in various research projects, where I help with protein expression, purification and the conduction of biochemical experiments."

Rosemarie Trenker-El-Toukhy / Laboratory Technician

"As Senior Scientist I'm involved in teaching as well as in research at the institute. At the moment I focus on the human electron transferring protein (hETF), where I attempt to investigate cofactor modifications, and on so-called BBE-like proteins in different organisms."

Silvia Wallner / Senior Scientist
