TU Graz Marketplace Online Barcamp 2
July 14th, 2021 | 15:00 - 18:30

The Barcamp offers the opportunity to exchange ideas about the digitization of teaching, administration and research within the framework of the Digital TU Graz and the possibility to turn participants into contributors. This means that the pilot teams, teachers and students as well as other stakeholders should be given the space for self-directed exchange, participatory co-design and strengthening networks in the sense of a marketplace community.

The event is aimed at teachers and students at universities and anyone interested in innovations in digital teaching.

The summer school is organized by the GAMM (Association of Applied Mathematics and Mechanics) Juniors, i.e. the representatives of young researchers within the organization of GAMM, and is held in a hybrid format. It addresses young researchers from mathematics and engineering who are working in the field of design optimization or are interested in the field. The summer school consists of three series of lectures given by Prof. Michael Stingl (Friedrich-Alexander-University Erlangen-Nürnberg), Prof. Benedikt Wirth (University of Münster) and Prof. Kevin Sturm (TU Wien) as well as two invited talks given by Prof. Gregoire Allaire (Ecole Polytechnique, Paris) and Prof. Jun Wu (TU Delft).

The World's First Digital Model of a Cancer Cell

Computer models have been standard tools in basic biomedical research for many years. However, around 70 years after the first publication of an ion current model of a nerve cell by Hodgkin & Huxley in 1952, researchers at Graz University of Technology (TU Graz), in collaboration with the Medical University of Graz and the Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center in New York, have finally succeeded in developing the world's first cancer cell model, thus launching "an essential tool for modern cancer research and drug development," reports a delighted Christian Baumgartner.

NEXT GREEN TECH
Energy Systems, Green Hydrogen & Green Mobility

"The climate crisis changes the framework conditions for economic development and subsequently the orientation of research and research policy very fundamentally and calls for a change in favor of sustainability and resilience: Styria's positioning in this future-oriented field is of great concern to the province of Styria.
We as a society have to cope with great challenges, which we ourselves have caused by our dominant economic and social forms. Rapid action is now required at all levels of society. For a sustainable development that enables a good life for all people, it is necessary that we find ways of living and doing business that respect the planetary stress limits. Green technologies and holistic approaches to solutions that are being developed today in Styria at a high scientific level will not only contribute to the region's scientific leadership and security of supply in the future, but will also support international competitiveness, the creation of high-quality jobs and the attractiveness of Styria as a business location."

The Styrian government has allocated a total budget of EUR 2 million for this call.
