GCSC meets Werner Sobek

As part of the opening of the Graz Center of Sustainable Construction (GCSC), Werner Sobek will be a guest at TU Graz. In his lecture "Über das Bauen in der Zukunft" he will show developments that affect our environment directly and how our way of building has a massive impact on it. Only if we document and show up the situation precisely these correlations can be recognized. The gained awareness of raw material availability, resource consumption, emissions, global warming and climate targets must absolutely lead to action for dealing with the current situation.

GAD Awards 2020

Danijel Zorec's "The Living Bridges of Vienna" wins the first prize of the GAD Awards.

The diploma thesis, supervised by Univ-Prof. Roger Riewe, designs an urban cluster in the form of several habitable bridges over the Danube Island, connecting the two parts of the city. The design presents a subtle megastructure that brings together social and cultural aspects of the river and the city, and aims to respond positively to the fragile environment and integrate well into the existing urban fabric. A high quality of life, measured by human needs, should prevail over the excessive aesthetic and seductive monumental effect. At the same time, Danijel Zorec's work re-examines the typology of the habitable bridge and adapts it to the contemporary requirements of the city of Vienna.

The jury statement and more information about the project can be found on the GAD Awards 20 website.

Tegetthoff Bridge

Acknowledgement award for Riegler Riewe
The design for the new construction of the Tegetthoff Bridge, while meeting all traffic and economic requirements, creates a new architectural highlight in the city center of Graz. The modern and light arch bridge combines elegance and building culture with functionality and economic efficiency. The contribution of Riegler Riewe in cooperation with Schlaich Bergermann Partner Ingenieuren was awarded with a credit.
