Central Open Access Publication Fund at TU Graz Funding Application Criteria

To be eligible for funding from the Open Access Publication Fund, the following criteria must be met:

1.  The following types of articles can be funded:

a.  Articles in open access journals listed in the Directory of Open Access Journals (DOAJ), which ensures that quality assurance measures such as peer review are carried out. Articles must be published under a Creative Commons license (CC BY or CC BY-SA) and must be made immediately accessible upon publication, allowing their distribution.

b. Articles in subscription-based journals can be "purchased" if they are published under a Creative Commons license (CC BY or CC BY-SA) for which TU Graz does not pay subscription fees (no double dipping). Exception: if there is a publishing agreement in addition to the subscription that includes OA publishing.

2.  Articles published within the framework of FWF projects*, EU projects, or predominantly externally funded research as well as other fees such as color or page charges (for excessively long articles), are not eligible for funding.

3.  Funding is granted on a "first come, first served" basis. A maximum of three publications per year and author can be funded.

4.  A maximum publication fee (Article Processing Charge - APC) of 2,500 euros (incl. VAT) is expected per article. Also, submissions to publishers such as Frontiers, BMC, and MDPI can only be funded at the above amount.

5.  The corresponding author belongs to the Technical University of Graz (TU Graz). If there are multiple corresponding authors, the applicant must also be the submitting author.

6.  The publication or the journal's website must indicate the author's affiliation in accordance with the "Guidelines for Standardized Affiliation in Publications and Research Projects".

7.  In the event of a funding decision, applicants are responsible for ensuring that the article includes an "Acknowledgment" stating that it was "supported by the TU Graz Open Access Publishing Fund".

8.  There is no legal entitlement to funding. If the funding provided by the Publication Fund is exhausted, no further funding is available.

9.  Funding is only available for new submissions. Refunds of already paid APCs are not possible.

10.  Articles supported by TU Graz are deposited in the OA Repository TUGraz Open Library.

* For FWF publications with the Institute of Physics (IOP), there is an exception: these will be funded in 2023 as part of the agreement and offset
against the FWF. Note: FWF's OA policy must be followed.
