Application for the Doctoral Programme

If you have completed your master's degree programme at TU Graz, you only need a confirmation of supervision for admission to the degree programme.

The online application is for graduates of other recognised post-secondary educational institutions.

1. Online Application for the Doctoral Programme

Before you start the application process, make sure that you have saved all the necessary documents as pdf files:

  • Proof of degree (Bachelor's and Master's or diploma certificate)
  • Transcripts
  • Confirmation of supervision from TU Graz (see Find a thesis subject and a supervisor)
  • Curriculum vitae
  • Copy of passport or identity card

Step 1: Create a basic-account

  • Go to the webpage online.tugraz.at and click login. Under the item Basic account you have to choose the underitem create an account. After successful fulfilment of the form you will receive an E-Mail for activating the system. If you don´t receive an E-Mail please contact it-supportnoSpam@tugraz.at immediately.
  • With clicking on the activation link a confirmation page will open in your browser. Then please click on Weiter (Further).
  • Now you can select any username and password for your account. ATTENTION: It is not possible to change the username afterwards! Please memorize your password!

Step 2: Submit an application

  • Having an account now you can submit an application. Therefor click Applications, then Enter new application.
  • Select the correct academic semester!
  • Select the desired doctoral programme! This is crucial, you cannot change the doctoral programme later on during the admission procedure.

Step 3: Upload your application files (pdf)

Must be submitted:

  • Recent passport photo
  • Application for Admission
  • Curriculum vitae
  • Transcript of Records of the Bachelor's programme
  • Bachelor's degree certificate
  • Transcript of Records of the Master's programme
  • Master's degree certificate
  • Passport or identity card
  • Confirmation of supervision of TU Graz

Can be submitted:

  • Further degrees


Please note that, depending on the country in which the documents are issued, you may need to have the documents certified.
The certified documents must also be scanned and uploaded.

Step 4: Review your data

  • Review your data and send the application.
  • No documents are to be sent by post until the decision on the application has been made.

  • You will receive further information to your given e-mail address.
  • If you have questions regarding the application process contact admission.phdnoSpam@tugraz.at.

Processing of your application

After you have submitted the complete application for the doctoral programme, it will be reviewed.

Once your application has been processed, you will be notified in writing by the Registrar's Office.

If you are accepted, you will receive a letter of admission from the Rector as well as information about the next steps.

Important Notes

  • Please check your email inbox after your application. Should any questions arise during the processing of your application, you will be informed in writing by the Registrar's Office.
  • Documents will only be checked during the application process. Submitting incomplete applications can lead to long processing times. You will be informed of missing or incomplete documents by the Registrar's Office.
  • Applications and documents submitted by e-mail will not be considered!
  • Applications that arrive after the submission deadline can only be considered for a later semester.
  • For data protection reasons, no information on the status of processing can be given to third parties. Please note that processing may take several weeks. An exact processing time cannot be given. Interventions by e-mail or telephone in the meantime will not speed up the processing of an application.
  • According to the Austrian Universities Act (§ 60 para. 6), applications may only be submitted by the applicants themselves or by a person authorised to represent parties professionally in Austria. Applications submitted in any other way (e.g. via an agency) will be rejected.
