About Institute of Materials Science, Joining and Forming, Research Group Tools and Forming (T&F)

In July 2004 the Institute of Tools & Forming was founded at the University of Technology in Graz and belongs to the Frank Stronach Institute [FSI].
Since 2017 it is listed as an Research Group Tools and Forming (T&F) of the Institute of Materials Science, Joining and Forming. Head of the institute is Univ.-Prof. Dipl.-Ing. Dr.techn. Christof Sommitsch.

Research activities of T&F deal with:

  • Optimization of forming processes and forming tools
  • Development and improvement of tool systems
  • A special emphasis is on design and simulation in forming technologies
  • Optimization of putting and cutting technologies
  • Examination of a possible use of  new materials- forming and further operations
  • Forming technologies – emphasis on bodywork
