Drift kinetic equation solver NEO-2

NEO-2 is a drift kinetic equation solver for plasmas with finite collisionality using the full linearized Coulomb collision operator including energy and momentum conservation. This code does not employ any simplifications on the 3D toroidal device geometry. It has been designed in order to effectively treat all plasma collisionality regimes including the long mean free path regime.

Main applications of NEO-2

  • Computation of neoclassical transport coefficients in stellarators in regimes with slow plasma rotation

  • Modeling of the generalized Spitzer function for current drive simulations

  • Evaluation of the toroidal torque resulting from small ideal non-axisymmetric magnetic field perturbations in tokamaks
