Christian Kreiner joined the Institute of Technical Informatics in 1996 as a doctoral student and worked with ITI in different roles until his death in March 2018. From 2008 he served as a senior research scientist and leader of the working group "Industrial Informatics". During his career, he co-authored about 250 publications, was involved in more than a dozen research projects often in cooperation with industry partners, co-supervised more than 40 master/diploma theses, and co-advised about 10 doctoral students. He won several awards for this work, among others the Austrian Federal Prize for Logistics in 2005. In parallel to his academic career, Christian Kreiner pursued also a successful industry career. In 1986 he co-founded Salomon Automation GmbH, where he served from 2000 to 2008 as head of the R&D department, focusing on logistics software and automation systems. In this role he led and coordinated a long-term research program together with the Institute for Technical Informatics. His research interests include systems and software engineering, software technology, process improvement, functional safety, and security.
