FULL-STACK SOFTWARE DEVELOPER

The Institute for Interactive Systems and Data Science at Graz University of Technology has an open position, available from 1st July 1st 2019 for an initial fixed-term of 1.5 years, for a:

FULL-STACK SOFTWARE DEVELOPER

Full Time (40 hours/week)

Duties and Responsibilities

  • Designing and leading development/implementation of high-performance, scalable architectures
  • Develop applications to analyse, process, and display textual data and metrics
  • Implementing and developing TU Graz research information services, including repository services
  • Consulting on technical requirements for advanced digital research and publication services
  • Sharing knowledge and best-practices through technical documentation

Required skills and experience

  • Ongoing or completed studies with a focus on software development
  • Demonstrated experience developing and maintaining interactive, data-driven Web applications (using standard technologies such as XHTML, CSS, JavaScript, PHP, MySql)
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Demonstrated ability to work both independently as well as collaboratively in teams and with users

Desirable skills and experience

  • Interest in Open Science and/or Research Data Management
  • Experience with software development best practices and methodologies including scrum, test driven development, version control and refactoring
  • Experience working with and contributing to open source software projects
  • Willingness to work on extensive customization of available open source solutions
  • Experience communicating technical needs and issues to non-IT staff
  • Analytical and networked thinking

Job grading in accordance with collective bargaining agreement: the gross salary for this positionamounts to a minimum of € 2864,46/month (14x per year). Higher compensation is possible, depending on your qualifications and experience.

PROJECT OFFICER

Full Time (40 hours/week)

Duties and Responsibilities

  • Review of key internal processes
  • Collaboration with university and external stakeholders to analyse existing research services, identify opportunities within the open science environment and make recommendations for improvements and to launch new services/research infrastructures
  • Developing project scopes and objectives, involving all relevant stakeholders and ensuring technical feasibility
  • Reporting and escalating to management as needed; performing risk management to minimize project risks
  • Participation in the conception and implementation of third-party funded projects

Required skills and experience

  • Completed academic studies (masters or diploma)
  • Understanding of research processes in a university
  • Knowledge of formal technical project management methodologies (preferably including Agile) and software tools to support project delivery
  • Team-working skills including the ability to be adaptable and resourceful in meeting service demands
  • Ability to write reports and present management information
  • Good organizational skills, high communication and team skills

Desirable skills and experience

  • Experience of working in Higher Education or other relevant research or publishing environment
  • Experience of managing metadata, bibliographic data or of institutional repository software
  • Demonstrable understanding of the role of repositories and the principles of Open Access, including copyright legislation and licensing
  • Good command of spoken and written English
