Atomare Defekte in Metallen und Keramiken Das Projekt beschäftigt sich mit der experimentelle Untersuchung atomarer Defekte in Metallen und Keramiken. Atomare Defekte wie Leerstellen, Versetzungen oder Korngrenzen bestimmen in nicht unerheblichem Masse sowohl strukturelle als auch funktionelle Eigenschaften von Materialien. Bei der Charakterisierung atomarer Defekte und deren Prozesse kommen vorrangig zwei spezifische, komplementäre Untersuchungsmethoden zum Einsatz. Für den atomistischen Zugang werden Methoden benutzt, die auf der Positron-Elektron-Zerstrahlung in Festkörpern basieren. Der zweite, kontinuumstheoretische und mesoskopische Zugang erfolgt über hochaufgelöste Dilatometrie. Für beide experimentelle Ansätze werden parallel auch die experimentellen Methoden durch eigene Methodenentwicklung verfeinert. wie z.B. Metalle nach starker plastischer Verformung, metallische Gläser, Perowskit-basierte Elektrokeramiken sowie moderne Ionenleiter für die Anwendung als Batteriematerialien.
