The certificate of qualification for university entrance opens the door to the many different professions and careers but choosing the right study programme can be quite challenging because of the sheer number of courses. Luckily, the annual Open Day provides a comprehensive overview of the range of studies offered by the four Graz universities. The University of Graz, the University of Music and Performing Arts, Graz, the Medical University of Graz and TU Graz will be presenting the broad range of their study programmes together from 9:00 am to 4:00 pm on Thursday, 31 March 2016. They include English language and literature, pharmaceutical science, human medicine and nursing science, chamber music and performing arts, mechanical engineering and computer science, among others. Prospective students, teaching staff and parents are cordially invited to take a look behind the scenes in tours of the institutes and campuses of the four Graz universities during this taster day. Free-of-charge shuttle buses will carry guests from campus to campus.

Shared welcome at 9:00 am

The day will start with a welcome. Visitors to the University of Graz, the Medical University of Graz, and the University of Music and Performing Arts will be welcomed in lecture hall 07.01 in the “Vorklinik” of the Medical University on the University of Graz campus at 9:00 am. The Open Day will also start at the same time in lecture hall i13 at Inffeldgasse 16b of TU Graz. From 9am, a convenient shuttle bus service will connect the four universities.

The “4students – Studien Info Service” team (study programme info service) offer opportunities – in more than 60 workshops – to get to know the study programmes and institutes, sample research and scholarship, and ask all the questions which haven’t so far been answered about studying at university. Visitors will learn about the University of Graz in special tours, for instance through the University Library or the sound studio of the Institute of Musicology. UniGraz@Museum will guide you through the exhibition KlimAcht | CliMatters. This year, too, there are special workshops about admission procedures for study programmes with limited places and for the Teacher Training programme at the Graz Uni.

University of Music and Performing Arts

There will be a welcome for visitors right at the heart of the University of Music and Performing Arts (KUG) in the Florentine Room of Palais Meran. After this visitors will be able to get information about the University and its range of programmes in the small room in individual consultations at 10:15 am. Additional information, such as Schauspiel-Info-Tour or von der Probe zum Konzert – give an insight into the daily activities of life at the University. There will also be a guided tour of the recently architecturally refurbished site of the University.

Medical University of Graz

After the welcome, all those interested in studying at the Med Uni just have to remain in their seats. Prospective students will be given information about study possibilities at Med Uni Graz in HS 07.01. Following this, interesting tours will lead you on a voyage of discovery through the “Vorklinik”. The “Auf den Spuren von CSI & Co” (On the tracks of CSI & co) tour in the morning grants access to the premises of Forensic Medicine, where research is conducted into determining blood groups and the genetic fingerprint of DNA. The Institute of Anatomy will also open its doors and give information about the early stages of medical studies. At 11:45 am there will be an opportunity to get information about the admission procedure at the Medical University of Graz, before several University departments will open their doors to interested persons at LKH-Univ. Klinikum (regional and teaching hospital).
