04/18/2019 | TU Graz news | University

By Ute Wiedner

Young researchers and lecturers from TU Graz and TU Darmstadt present projects for a joint funding framework for budding scientists on 2nd May. Rectors will then sign the extension to the programme.

Behind the cooperation between organisations are people: TU Graz Rector Kainz (right) and President of TU Darmstadt Jürgen Prömel (left) are personally engaged in the cooperation between the two universities in research and teaching.

Computer science, mathematics, geodesy and materials science. These are just some of the specialist areas in which TU Graz and TU Darmstadt traditionally work together very closely. Since signing the strategic partnership agreement in July 2017, both universities of technology have made funds available to support young researchers and cooperation projects in teaching in particular. The meeting scheduled for 2nd May at TU Graz should further strengthen cooperation at all university levels. After the project presentations in the current round of bids, TU Graz Rector Harald Kainz and Hans Jürgen Prömel, President of TU Darmstadt, will sign the extension of the joint funding programme in an official ceremony in the evening. Rector Kainz will take the opportunity to hand over a vitrography of Archduke Johann to President Prömel as an expression of appreciation for his special commitment to the strategic partnership between the two universities.

Short talks on the current cooperation projects

The projects submitted to the recently completed round of applications are a testament to the diversity of the cooperation between the researchers in Graz and Darmstadt. At 4pm on 2nd May, the following research projects in geoscience, applied mathematics, automotive engineering, knowledge visualisation and technical computer science will be presented in short talks:

  • „Computational Engineering zwischen Graz und Darmstadt“
Cyrill Grengg (Institute of Applied Geosciences ) and Florian Mittermayr (Institute of Technology and Testing of Construction Materials with attached Technical Experimental and Research Laboratory for Testing Construction Materials).
  • „Durable construction materials for chemically aggressive sewer systems“
Peter Gangl (Institute of Applied Mathematics)
  • „Project proposal ESSENSE-AD: European Sensordata Suite for Empowering Automated Driving“
Arno Eichberger (Institute of Automotive Engineering)
  • „Interactive Visual Analysis of Data and Documents“
Tobias Schreck (Institute of Computer Graphics and Knowledge Visualisation)
  • „JamLab-NG: Benchmarking IoT Protocols under Controllable and Repeatable Wi-Fi Interference”
Carlo Alberto Boano (Institute of Technical Informatics)
