Admission Procedure: Master's Degree Programme Information and Computer Engineering

This information on the admission procedure for the master's degree programme Information and Computer Engineering applies to the academic year 2020/21.

The admission procedure regulations for the academic year 2020/21 (winter semester 2020/21 and summer semester 2021) do not apply to:

  • Students who have completed a degree programme at TU Graz – or in the case of a NAWI Graz degree programme, at the University of Graz – that entitles them to be admitted to the master’s programme in Information and Computer Engineering at TU Graz.
  • Students who have completed one of the following degree programmes: www.tugraz.at/fakultaeten/infbio/studies/starting-a-masters.
  • Students who have already been admitted to the master’s programme in Information and Computer Engineering, in Computer Science or in Software Engineering and Management at TU Graz without being given a time limit.

All other applicants for the degree programme must complete the admission procedure.

  • Result of the ranking by the selection commission: until 1 March 2020

1. Online Admission Procedure

Registration period for the academic year 2020/21:
15 October to 15 December 2019

Before starting the admission procedure make sure that you have saved the necessary documents as pdf- files ready for the upload:

  • Proof of completion of studies
  • Curriculum of your degree programme
  • Transcript of records
  • Letter of motivation
  • Curriculum vitae

You can find detailed information on the application documents in the Regulations for the admission procedure.

Step 1: Create a basic-account

  • Go to the webpage online.tugraz.at and click login. Under the item Basic account you have to choose the underitem create an account. After successful fulfilment of the form you will receive an E-Mail for activating the system. If you don´t receive an E-Mail please contact it-supportnoSpam@tugraz.at immediately.
  • With clicking on the activation link a confirmation page will open in your browser. Then please click on Weiter (Further).
  • Now you can select any username and password for your account. ATTENTION: It is not possible to change the username afterwards! Please memorize your password!

Step 2: Submit an application

  • Having an account now you can submit an application. Therefor click Applications, then Enter new application.
  • Select the correct academic year! (2020/21)
  • Select the desired master degree programme! This is crucial, you cannot change the master degree programme later on during the admission procedure.

Step 3: Upload your application files (pdf)

  • Proof of completion of studies
  • Curriculum of your degree programme
  • Transcript of records
  • Letter of motivation
  • Curriculum vitae

Step 4: Review your data

  • Review your data and send the application.

  • You will receive further information to your given e-mail address.

2. Ranking of Applications by the Selection Commission

A selection commission decides which applicants will be given place in the degree programme. The selection commission awards a maximum of 25 points: a maximum of 5 points for the letter of motivation and a maximum of 20 points for the subject-specific competences.

Exclusion Criteria

The following exclusion criteria are reasons for refusing application:

  • Qualifications from a course of study that is not in a relevant subject
  • A total of less than 14 points

Notification of Results

The applicants will be notified by 1 March 2020 at the latest,

  • how many points they were awarded and
  • whether they have been allocated a place in the degree programme.

3. Submit Original Documents

If you have been allocated a place in the degree programme, then you must submit the following documents in the originals – correctly certified if applicable – to the Registration Office either in person or by post.

Documents

  • Certificate of the completed undergraduate degree
  • Transcript of records of the completed degree with details of the examinations taken, grades and credits
  • Proof of English language competence
  • A copy of your passport (only the page with the personal data)
  • Proof of special university entrance qualification – for citizens of countries outside the EU: Letter of confirmation from a recognized university in the country where the applicant obtained the bachelor's or Diplom degree, confirming that the applicant was eligible for admission to the equivalent master's degree programme to the one applied for at TU Graz in the current academic year.*

*Explanation: Special University Entrance Qualification

The Austrian Universities Act (in German: Universitätsgesetz 2002) requires a special entrance qualification of all university applicants from non-EU and non-EEA countries. This confirmation consists in the fulfilment of additional study specific admission requirements including the admission statement to the chosen degree programme, applicable at an officially recognised/accredited university in the state which issued the secondary education diploma, the bachelor or master diploma.

The Islamic Azad University is not accepted!
 

What does special university entrance qualification mean?

In order to be admitted at the TU Graz, you have to prove that you are entitled to an admission to your chosen degree programme in the country which issued your secondary education diploma/ degree  for the semester you want to start your studies at the TU Graz. A corresponding confirmation referring to the nearest related branch of studies must be provided in cases where the branch of studies applied for does not exist in the country where the secondary school leaving diploma was issued.

The proof has to include:

  • Applicants name
  • Date of issue of the proof
  • Specification of the degree programme
  • Fulfilment of study specific admission requierments including the admission statement to the chosen degree programme at an accredited university in the state which issued the secondary education diploma, bachelor or master diploma
  • The current term or academic year, in which the applicant would like to pursue his studies at TU Graz

The special entrance qualification has to be translated and legalized according to the regulations of the country.

Where do you get the confirmation of special university entrance qualification?

The confirmation must be issued by an officially recognised/accredited technical university or faculty of the country where the secondary school leaving diploma, bachelor or master diploma was issued.

Is there a validity period of the confirmation of special university entrance qualification?

It must be valid for the desired date of commencement of studies at the TU Graz.
