Overview: Teacher Training Programme

As a teacher, you stimulate pupils’ interest in your subject, share knowledge, and explore topics together with your pupils.

The Teacher Training Programme for Secondary Education is made up of both a bachelor’s and a master’s degree. The master’s degree programme will be available beginning in 2019.

You choose 2 teaching subjects or combine one teaching subject with a specialized subject.

TU Graz offers the teaching subjects Descriptive Geometry and Computer Science. If you choose at least one of these subjects you can register for the bachelor’s degree programme Teacher Training for Secondary Education at TU Graz.

The teaching subjects offered by TU Graz can be combined with the following teaching subjects offered by other institutions or with the teaching specialization Inclusive Teaching with Focus on Disability:

Structure of the Bachelor's Programme Teacher Training Programme for Secondary Education (240 ECTS)

  • Educational Principles (including studies in pedagogic practice) – 40 ECTS
  • Teaching Subject 1 (including studies in pedagogic practice) – 95 ECTS
  • Teaching Subject 2 or specialized subject (including studies in pedagogic practice) – 95 ECTS
  • Bachelor's thesis – 5 ECTS
  • Free elective subjects – 5 ECTS

After Completion of the Master's Programme

Graduates of the master’s degree Teacher Training Programme for Secondary Education are qualified to teach at the following types of school:

  • New Secondary Schools,
  • Secondary Academic Schools (AHS) and
  • General subjects at Secondary Technical and Vocational Schools (BMHS), e.g. polytechnical (pre-vocational) schools, vocational schools, commercial schools and colleges, higher technical institutes, and higher federal institutes for commercial professions.
