Geo-WSN - Frühwarnsystem zur Beurteilung der Gefährdung kritischer Infrastruktur durch Hangrutschungen
The occurring change in earth climate leads to an increasing amount of landslide or mass-moving events with varying dimensions. Within the inner alpine regions, especially in Austria, a latent endangerment of critical infrastructure like streets or rails exists. Some examples from the past dramatically illustrate the hazard to the infrastructure (see attached letters of interest). To better protect Austrias people and infrastructure more powerful early-warning systems would be required. Such a system would consist mainly of two parts: A comprehensive and enduring monitoring system of suspected slopes and more precise models of geologic mechanisms within the slopes. For a future realization of a comprehensive monitoring system two aspects shall be investigated within this project: 1.) Technical aspect: The possibilities and limitations of a Wireless-Sensor-Network with GPS-Carrier-Beat Positioning for implementation of a comprehensive monitoring system shall be investigated. Furthermore, an energy-autarkic and maintenance-free supply using energy-efficient principles shall be explored. 2.) Psychological aspects: It shall be investigated how to disseminate the information correctly to the people, how the warning levels have to be defined and how the people have to be trained that in an acute situation the people assess the situation correctly and react correctly.

A precise, enduring, and cost efficient system for monitoring suspected slopes using wireless sensor networks (WSN) and GPS-Carrier-Beat-Positioning.
