Research in Metal Cutting

The research in metal cutting represents the core competence of the Institute for Production Engineering and is divided into the areas of machining with geometrically defined cutting edge and high-performance grinding.The first section examines the process (e.g. turning, milling, deep drilling) by measuring and analyzing the forces, temperatures and tool wear. Machining tests and finite element calculations are performed and used to optimize process parameters and tools. The focus is also the entire system of the machine tool, fixture, tool organization and automation. A unique grinding machine will support the research area high-performance grinding in 2016.
