General
In electrical power systems, the earthing system is unquestionably an essential part of the measure of protection. By earthing system parts (operational/protective earthing) or components, it is prevented during normal operation or an event of a fault, that electrical potential rise of conductive parts that are normally not under electrical potential occurs and lead to endangering persons, animals or property through impermissible contact or step voltages or influencing voltages. With a (protective) equipotential bonding system, dangerous potential differences between individual system parts or installations and conductive parts that are directly connected to earth are prevented in normal operation and during an event of a fault in the electrical system. Earthing in lightning protection systems ensures that dangerous voltages and currents that can occur during lightning strikes or atmospheric discharges are discharged via the shortest and safest route, thus preventing damage. Therefore, a coordinated earthing, lightning protection and equipotential bonding system has to be developed during the planning process in order to reliably meet the requirements mentioned above.

What is an Earthing Concept??
An incredibly demanding task for universities and technical colleges-HTLs - electricians - architects - master builders - foremen - constructors.
The earthing concept includes the conceptual specification of the design of the earthing as well as the potential bonding system. The electrical interference which can lead to disturbances or hazards is to be examined with priority:

When investigating the electrical interference, consideration shall be given to the sources and sinks of interference. The aim in creating an earthing concept is to reduce the level of hazard to a normatively defined minimum. The following should be taken into account during the investigations:

The Institute for Electrical Power Systems can contribute to the investigation of these parameters and has the competence to support customers, planners, contractors and inspectors of an earthing system with the collected data. Several fields of expertise established at the Institute are interlinked with the primary goal of obtaining a safe and durable earthing system.

A further focus of the Institute of Electrical Power System in terms of earthing and equipotential bonding systems is the measurement and testing of such systems. Accordingly, the institute has the most modern measuring equipment (details here, with which measurements (also on large-area) of earthing and equipotential bonding systems according to the latest standards are possible.
