2013

Introducing Prof. Peter Fischer as the new director of the institute.

Organizational classification of the institute into the work areas:

  • Vehicle dynamics
  • Automotive Mechatronics
  • Lightweight construction

2011

Retirement of Prof. Hirschberg.

Dr. Eichberger takes over the interim management of the institute.

2008

Prof. Hirschberg hands over the scientific leadership of the competence center and appointed as speaker of the FSI institutes.

2006

Relocation to the newly built FSI building on campus Inffeldgasse.

Now there is enough office space, seminar rooms and a newly equipped car laboratory.

Graduation of the first FTG doctoral candidate.

2004

Transition to independent Institute of Automotive Engineering (FTG).

It initially resides provisionally on the upper floor of the Joanneum Research in Graz Steyrergasse, developed rapidly and becomes a member of the donated by MAGNA [FSI].

Start of the first research cooperations.

2003

Seperation of Automotive Engineering Graz (FTG) as an independent working area from the Institute for Internal Combustion Engines and Thermodynamics (IVT) at Graz University of Technology.

Appointing of Prof. Wolfgang Hirschberg as Head of Vehicle Technology at the same time as his appointment as Scientific Director of the Competence Center - The Virtual Vehicle.

Setting up vehicle teaching and research.
