EAM/Institute/Profil

Profile

The Electric Drives and Machines Institute has a long-standing tradition of research into electric and electromechanical energy converters, power electronics, and the integration of these components into systems, including interactions between individual components. The competence of the institute was complemented and extended in April 2010 when a new, modern research and teaching laboratories were commissioned, after Prof. Muetze, who had been working previously in Germany, the US, and the UK, became head of the institute.
Key research fields & competence areas:
  • Electric drives
  • Electric machines
  • Power electronics
  • Control of electric drives
  • Experimental work related to these areas in the institute’s own laboratory
Institute highlights:
  • Low-cost electric drives for consumer applications – including contributions to series production
  • Magnetic material degradation due to different cutting techniques: database, model for electric machine design
  • A high efficiency modular wide input voltage range power supply
  • Thermal aspects of electric machine integration
  • New, modern research and teaching laboratory (e.g. capabilities up to 500 kVA, 690 V systems)
