Grazotopia is a comprehensive experiment in participative utopian urban planning and housing policies, funded and realized as part of the Graz Culture Year 2020. It involves and facilitates collaboration between local and international experts, activists and students as well as all interested city inhabitants. Grazotopia will cover field research, continuing education, planning workshops, consultations, publications and an exhibition, ultimately leading to a “living archive” for the city of Graz.

As a media partner, LAMA—the young Graz Lösungsorientierte Architekturmagazin(solution-oriented architecture magazine)—will elaborate and publish the content and research results of Grazotopia. For this task and for research assistance, we are looking for motivated architecture students who would like to extend their experience beyond the beaten path in architecture. Each position offers a large amount of freedom for creativity and for working independently.

1. Research Assistance
As an assistant to the organizational and communication personnel of Grazotopia, you would be working in the areas of field research, workshop planning, fellow citizens and public relations work. You would carry out interviews, prepare research results in terms of graphics and content for editorial purposes, and assist with the closing Grazotopia workshop in Graz, in September 2020.

For this position you should have:
- Interest in urban research, working independently and taking on responsibilities
- Organizational skills, structured and conscientious working methods
- Communication skills, knowledge of German as a native speaker, advanced English skills
- Capabilities in one or more graphic programs

Timeframe: January 1 – December 31, 2020
Time Commitment: ca. 270 hours total, with variable hours/week
Remuneration: €3000 (on the basis of fee notes)

2.    Public Relations and Editorial Position
Responsibility for the public relations work of Grazotopia. In this position you will distribute the content and results of Grazotopia through LAMA’s media channels (its website and social media), as well as preparing the results of the field research as informational material for citizens, workshop participants and experts, as coordinated with the research assistant.

For this position you should have:
- Interest in editorial work, capacity of working with word processing software
- Capabilities in one or more graphic program, interest in information design and ideally talent in drawing
- Excellent knowledge of spoken and written German, very good knowledge of English
- Experience working with websites is ideal (especially Wix)

Timeframe: January 1 – December 31, 2020
