Arvo Pärt Centre - Spiegel im Spiegel

Stefan Nuncic

The following work deals with the building-design of a cultural centre for the Estonian composter Arvo Pärt. The aim is, to create a place, where the artists heritage can be presented to a general public. The site is located in Estonia, the composers native country, in the middle of a pine forest, close to the sea. The design-parameters are based on the architectural competition, which was arranged by the Arvo Pärt foundation in 2014. The result should favour a place of cultural exchange. On the one hand it should be possible to conserve and to study the over time produced media and on the other hand to be confronted with Arvo Pärts music and person. Besides the two before mentioned, architecture-immanent components – place and function – in this case you come across one further essential, the design defining topic: Arvo Pärts music. The result aims to fulfill the needs of these three components, in order to create a structure which opens a dialogue with place and music. The master thesis Arvo Pärt Centre - Spiegel im Spiegel was supervised by Roger Riewe (Institute of Architecture Technology).
